Nuclear Medicine

Nuclear Medicine

Nuclear medicine is a branch of medical imaging that uses small amounts of radioactive material to diagnose and determine the severity of or treat a variety of diseases, including many types of cancers, heart disease, gastrointestinal, endocrine, neurological disorders and other abnormalities within the body.

It is a safe, painless, and cost-effective way to image the body and treat disease. Nuclear medicine imaging is unique, because it provides doctors with information about both structure and function. It is a way to gather medical information that would otherwise be unavailable, require surgery, or necessitate more expensive diagnostic tests. Nuclear medicine imaging procedures often identify abnormalities very early in the progress of a disease, long before many medical problems become apparent through other diagnostic tests.

Asiri Surgical is the only place in the country with the facility to check and treat the entire body with this revolutionary form of treatment. This is why 90% of all cancer patients in Sri Lanka and about 5% of brain and 5% heart patients are currently being treated at Asiri Surgical.
